The LaQueen Juneteenth Pageant was first held in 1998 as a way of involving, and giving recognition to, the mature women of our community in the Juneteenth holiday observance. LaQueen Juneteenth is a woman with poise, grace, style and a sense of dedication to the improvement of the quality of life of those around her. This program is open to any woman 30 years of age or older. The pageant was held at the Anniston City Meeting Center followed by a caberet-style dance and show. It was also an important fundraising event for the 1998 and 1999 Juneteenth Heritage Festival. The lady crowned LaQueen received a bouquet of flowers, a trophy and a 5 piece set of luggage and represented the principles of Juneteenth as co-host of the festival activities in Zinn Park.
